As Nigeria ushers in the dawn of 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt wishes to all citizens for a year filled with joy, prosperity, and good health. Reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the past year, the President expressed optimism for a brighter and more promising future for the nation.

In his New Year address, President Tinubu acknowledged the hurdles faced by Nigerians in 2024, particularly economic difficulties that impacted households and individuals. Despite these challenges, he highlighted positive indicators signaling progress and stability.

Economic Progress and Outlook for 2025

The President outlined significant strides made in economic recovery, noting a gradual decrease in fuel prices, sustained foreign trade surpluses for three consecutive quarters, and a strengthening of the Naira against the US dollar. He also celebrated the stock market’s record growth, which generated trillions of naira in wealth, and the renewed confidence of foreign investors.

However, he recognized persistent concerns such as the high cost of food and essential medicines. To address these issues, the government plans to intensify efforts to boost food production and promote local manufacturing of critical drugs.

President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to reducing inflation from its current rate of 34.6% to 15% in 2025, a goal he believes is achievable with concerted effort and divine guidance.

Expanding Access to Credit and Economic Empowerment

The Federal Government, in partnership with key financial and private sector institutions, will launch the National Credit Guarantee Company in 2025. This initiative aims to expand access to credit for individuals and businesses, particularly underserved groups such as women and youth.

The Company is expected to commence operations by the second quarter and will provide risk-sharing instruments to financial institutions, fostering confidence in the financial system. This move is anticipated to drive economic growth, industrialization, and improved living standards.

Fostering National Unity and Shared Values

In 2025, the government will unveil the National Values Charter, approved by the Federal Executive Council, as part of the National Identity Project. This initiative seeks to promote patriotism, ethical principles, and shared national values. A nationwide orientation campaign will inspire unity and mutual trust among Nigerians, emphasizing the importance of citizenship and moral integrity in achieving the country’s aspirations.

The Ministry of Youth will oversee the selection of representatives for this landmark event.

Collaborative Governance and Emerging Opportunities

President Tinubu called on state governors and local council chairpersons to collaborate with the Federal Government to harness emerging opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms. He commended states adopting innovative energy solutions such as compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, underscoring the importance of these initiatives in Nigeria’s energy transition.

A Message of Gratitude and Hope

The President expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by Nigerians over the past 19 months and assured them that these efforts would not be in vain. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing necessary reforms for sustainable growth and prosperity.

“We are on the right path to building a great Nigeria that works for everyone,” the President stated, urging citizens to remain focused, united, and committed to the shared goal of achieving a one trillion-dollar economy.

As the New Year unfolds, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of cooperation, collaboration, and unwavering belief in Nigeria’s potential. He concluded with a heartfelt blessing:
