The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Kehinde Yemitan, suspected to be a murderer and ritualist, at his hideout in the Ilogbo Ota community of the state.

This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of his twin brother, Taiwo Yemitan, and an accomplice, Kazeem, on December 22, 2024, in connection with the gruesome murder and dismemberment of Darasimi, a commercial sex worker.

The victim was reportedly lured to the suspects’ residence in Abeokuta under the guise of companionship before being killed in what authorities believe to be a ritualistic act.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, detailed the collaborative effort that led to Kehinde’s capture.

“Having been fingered as one of the accomplices to the tragic crime, the police surveillance team, in collaboration with the So Safe Corps, had been on the lookout for Kehinde until intelligence revealed his hideout on Monday,” Odutola stated.

According to the police, a tip-off from an informant on December 30, 2024, indicated that Kehinde was hiding in the Ilogbo community. Acting on this information, officers from the Sango Ota Police Division and a surveillance team moved swiftly to apprehend the suspect at around 5 p.m.

“Kehinde admitted to conspiring with his brother Taiwo and others to commit the crime. Community members also corroborated his involvement in various criminal activities,” Odutola revealed.

The Yemitan twins and Kazeem are accused of luring their victim, Darasimi, to a residence in Abeokuta, where she was murdered and her body dismembered. This heinous act is believed to have been motivated by ritualistic purposes.

Following Kehinde’s arrest, he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The authorities are working to uncover the full scope of the crime and identify other potential accomplices.

In her statement, Odutola issued a stark warning to young women about the dangers of engaging in casual relationships for monetary gain, often referred to as “hookups.” She emphasized the risks associated with such activities, which could lead to tragic outcomes.

“A further appeal goes to young females to see this unfortunate incident as a lesson and to exercise caution to avoid falling victim to ritual killings,” she said.

The case has sparked outrage in the community, with many calling for swift justice to serve as a deterrent to others. The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents while encouraging vigilance and cooperation from the public.

This arrest marks a significant step in addressing the prevalence of ritual killings and other violent crimes in the state. Authorities continue to urge citizens to report suspicious activities to law enforcement to prevent similar tragedies.
