Two of the three laboratories approved by a Magistrate Court in Ikorodu have reportedly declined to conduct paternity tests on Mohbad’s alleged son, Liam, as the legal dispute between the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, and his widow, Wunmi, continues to unfold.

The Magistrate Court had, three weeks ago, authorized DNA testing at three laboratories located in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The court independently selected Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited, while Wunmi proposed Alpha Bio LabsWarrington, UK”]. Joseph Aloba chose DNA Diagnostics CentreFairfield, Ohio, US”].

However, in a statement on Thursday, Aloba’s counsel, Oladayo Ogungbe, revealed that both Advanced Histopathology Laboratory and Alpha Bio Labs declined to perform the tests.

According to Ogungbe, the laboratories informed the legal team that they “do not conduct post-mortem DNA testing involving embalmed bodies,” following preliminary inquiries to determine their technical capacity for such procedures.

The paternity dispute comes in the wake of Mohbad’s mysterious death in September 2023, which shocked fans and the public. The singer was buried the day after his passing, but his body was exhumed seven days later following public outcry over the circumstances of his death.

Mohbad’s father subsequently demanded a DNA test to confirm the parentage of Liam, sparking the ongoing legal proceedings and the search for a laboratory capable of handling the complex post-mortem analysis.

The third laboratory, DNA Diagnostics Centre in Ohio, remains the only option currently available to potentially carry out the paternity test. The case continues to draw significant attention in Nigeria’s entertainment and legal circles.
