The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has issued a comprehensive guide to help American citizens residing in the country cast their votes in the upcoming November 2024 general elections.

The initiative underscores efforts to ensure robust democratic participation for U.S. citizens abroad, particularly in a pivotal election year.

Shared on the mission’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the guide outlines a clear three-step voting process designed to simplify participation for U.S. citizens in Nigeria.

The first step involves requesting a ballot through the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website, which offers detailed instructions for overseas voters.

In the second and third steps, citizens are advised to receive, complete, and return their ballots.

The mission emphasized multiple ballot return options to ensure accessibility, including dropping ballots at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the Consulate General in Lagos. Voters can also mail their ballots directly using postage-paid envelopes provided by the mission.

“The mission has provided multiple options for ballot return, demonstrating a commitment to accessibility. “You may drop off your completed ballot in a postage-paid envelope at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the Consulate General in Lagos, or you may mail it yourself,” the statement added.

With the 2024 elections set to decide not only the next U.S. president but also Congress and key state and local positions, the mission is urging citizens to act swiftly.

Delays in international mail could affect ballot submissions, making early voting essential.

The upcoming presidential race has garnered global interest, with former president Donald Trump aiming for a return to office and Vice President Kamala Harris poised to make history as the first woman and person of color to potentially win the presidency.

As the election approaches, U.S. citizens abroad, including those in Nigeria, are encouraged to ensure their voices are heard.

However, the mission also stressed the importance of timely action. With potential delays in international mail services, citizens are urged to complete the voting process as early as possible to ensure their ballots are received and counted.
