The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially authenticated the Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, amid ongoing scrutiny of his academic credentials.
The verification follows renewed petitions from the Centre for Leadership Legacy International (Centre LLI), a civil society organisation, which in December 2025 urged President Bola Tinubu to order an investigation into alleged discrepancies surrounding Tunji-Ojo’s academic records, particularly his WAEC certificate.
Concerns about the minister’s credentials had previously been extended to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, prompting questions about his eligibility for public office.
While Tunji-Ojo’s allies dismissed the claims as politically motivated, the allegations continued to gain attention on social media and through press releases.

WAEC’s attestation document confirms that Tunji-Ojo attended the Staff Secondary School at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and sat for the Senior Secondary School Examination in June 1999.
The authentication is expected to put to rest lingering doubts regarding the minister’s educational qualifications.
Analysts say the WAEC verification is a crucial step in countering politically driven narratives and may help restore public confidence in the minister’s eligibility and integrity as a key member of the federal cabinet.
