Veteran media entrepreneur Mo Abudu has opened up about her bold decision to leave a stable career in the oil and gas sector at the age of 40 to pursue her passion in media.

Speaking at a recent conference on career growth and personal development, the founder of EbonyLife TV described the move as a defining moment driven by purpose.

“I left my stable 9 to 5 oil and gas job at 40 to follow mine. It was a really nice job and there was no reason to leave, but I knew God wanted me to do something else,” she said.

Before transitioning into the media industry, Abudu held senior roles in human resources and training at ExxonMobil, where she built a successful corporate career.

Despite the security and prestige of her position, she said she felt compelled to step out of her comfort zone in order to make a broader impact.

Her decision ultimately led to the creation of EbonyLife TV, now regarded as one of Africa’s leading media platforms, underscoring her influence in shaping the continent’s entertainment landscape.
