The viral video of Prophet TB Joshua prophesying a revolution in Nigeria has provoked action from several Nigerian State governors, who are employing the solutions the cleric gave to avert the ‘ominous signs’ by ‘carrying the youth along in politics and administration’.

“I am seeing a revolution,” Joshua stated in a video dated July 14th 2013, which went viral in the midst of the #EndSARS protests currently engulfing Nigeria.

“I’m seeing people taking to the streets… You can stop protests but you cannot stop revolution. When it becomes a revolution, everybody is ready to die, so you can’t stop it,” he continued. “It might be stopped at the beginning. Eventually, it will become so big that it cannot be stopped. This I see happen. Nigeria, pray.”

However, according to Joshua, “God has given us a way out” which he described as “job creation for the youth and the creation of a new social value system.” He particularly called on Nigerian politicians to actively engage young people in the political sphere, thus “training them to take over tomorrow”.

“No matter the education the youth have, they feel they have no place in politics and there is no job to keep them busy… In politics, the youth should be considered for important positions such as assistants to elders. While the elders are ministers, the youth should be junior ministers,” he advised.

As the nationwide protests over police brutality have intensified and morphed into demands for good governance and frustration over administrative failures, several state governors began acting on Joshua’s prophetic guidance, albeit belatedly.

Sir Ben Ayade and Mr Udom Emmanuel, the governors of Cross River and Akwa-Ibom, both announced immediate actions to prioritise job creation for young people, especially in the political sphere.

Subsequently, in a meeting on Wednesday 28th October 2020, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, approved the employment of 5000 youths into the state’s civil service “as an immediate measure to reduce the level of youth unemployment.”

“In addition, we shall also continue to support our youth to acquire relevant skills or take up opportunities in small and medium scale enterprises to become self-employed and employers of labour,” Wike added.

Speaking after the meeting, the Commissioner for Employment Generation and Empowerment, Mr. Sylvanus Nwankwo said the youths to be employed must not be more than 35 years old.

Although TB Joshua is yet to make a public comment, the video of his ‘revelation’ about revolution went viral on social media with many young people faulting Nigeria’s leaders for not acting on the cleric’s message when it was given in 2013.

The #EndSARS protests have highlighted the growing discontent among young people towards the political elite and their willingness to pay the price to make their voices heard.
