The national leader of the APC, Ahmed Tinubu has declared his ambition to run as a presidential candidate of the ruling party APC. He made his intentions known to the public when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock villa in Abuja. The former Lagos State governor is not the only person aspiring for the post but is a formidable person to beat among the party members.

The other candidate like the vice president professor Yemi Osibanjo, Orji Uzo Kalu, Ayim Pius Ayim, Governor Umahi and so many more. These are a few that I showed interest to contest in the party’s primary election. Mr Tinubu will have a tough contest before I can get the party ticket. These are some reasons that put his ambition in jeopardy.

1. Age and state of health

Although, this is a political gimmick to stop this former Lagos State governor from getting the party ticket. There are insinuations that the APC national leader is not feeling too well. You may recall he traveled to the UK last year, and he spent some months before coming back to Nigeria. Some Nigerians assume he went for a serious surgery because of his poor state of health, although his aide has come out to deny it, he said his principal is very well ok.

Also, other uncertainties surround is a certificate, some believe that is older than the proclaimed age. They perceive they don’t want somebody that is over 70 as their presidential candidate. They want somebody younger than him.

2. South East factor

Some APC party members speculate they should allow the Southeast to vie for the number one citizen seat. The party will zone the presidential seat to the south. They assume that this is the time for the south-eastern people to be President.

3. Professor Yemi Osinbajo

Some political analysts believe that Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu might step down because he is his political son. If a proper discussion happens between the two camps. The national leader of the APC played a vital role before the Vice President emerge in the 2015 presidential election. Mr Tinubu may step down for a younger professor Yemi Osinbajo, if persuaded by the party bigwigs.

This is just a political insinuation. Anything can happen, nobody can stay what will be the final agreement within the party concerning who should represent them at the pool in the year 2023 general election. Time will tell as we are approaching the election year, there will be a lot of drama in the political parties and a lot of bigwigs will decamp to other parties.
