Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Police Affairs Minister, recently said on Channels Television that President Muhammadu Buhari will make the final decision on the request for the extradition of embattled police boss, DCP Abba Kyari, to answer allegations of his involvement in the $1.1 million fraud carried out by Hushpuppi.

Today we shall be looking at four things that the President may do regarding making the final extradition decision on Abba Kyari.

1. Permit Him To Be Extradited

President Buhari may decide to allow the extradition of the embattled supercop to the United States to face the charges levelled against him. Mr. Buhari may like to show Nigeria how much he hates corrupt practises and other social vices by leaving the fate of Abba Kyari to the United State court.

2. Have Him Tried in Nigerian Court Without Allowing Him To Be Extradited To The United States

The president may also decide to allow Abba Kyari to be tried in the Nigerian court and, if finally found guilty of the Hushpuppi allegation, be made to face the music to serve as a deterrent to others. Since justice can be served anywhere to a law breaker, the president may not allow justice to be served here rather than take him to another country where he will be found quilty and jailed, thereby giving the country a bad name since he happens to be a very highly respected and decorated cop in Nigeria.

3.Demote His Rank and Allow Him to Continue His Job.

Another possible action is that the president may decide to demote the embattled police boss if found guilty by the committee and allow him to continue with his job, giving him some leniency because of the success he had previously recorded in fighting crimes and criminality in the country. This may serve as an amnesty for him, if he was actually found wanting by the police committee that investigated him.

3. Sack Him And Retrieved All His Hero Awards

This may be the toughest decision of the president if the committee that investigated Abba Kyari found him guilty. The president may place this strong decision on Abba Kyari by sacking him and retrieving all his numerous national awards. This will definitely make the embattled super cops lose all the benefits of being a police officer, because when a person is sacked for misconduct, all privileges and entitlements are gone.

Which of these decisions do you think the President may take after the committee report and decision about the extradition of Abba Kyari is submitted to him? Which decision will you take if you are Nigeria’s president? Share your contributions.
