Arsenal’s Premier League title aspirations have been dealt a major setback following reports that Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli are both facing extended periods on the sidelines due to hamstring injuries.
Multiple reports suggest that Havertz, the club’s top scorer this season with 15 goals in all competitions, has suffered a season-ending injury.
The German international reportedly sustained the injury during Arsenal’s recent warm-weather training camp in Dubai.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on Wednesday that Havertz has torn his hamstring and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli, who was forced off during Arsenal’s EFL Cup semi-final defeat to Newcastle United, is also facing a lengthy absence.
Ornstein earlier reported that Martinelli is expected to be sidelined for more than a month due to his hamstring injury.
Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed after the match that Martinelli “felt something” and would undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.
Speculation Surrounding Havertz’s Injury
While reports indicate that Havertz’s injury is serious, some rival fans have raised doubts about the timing and severity of the claims, suggesting the possibility of strategic exaggeration.
Arsenal has yet to issue an official statement on Havertz’s condition, leaving room for speculation that the reported injuries could be less severe than suggested or that the club is engaging in “mind games” ahead of important fixtures.
Arsenal’s Attack Hit Hard
These injuries further deplete an already stretched Arsenal attack, leaving Arteta without four of his five top goal contributors.
Bukayo Saka is still recovering from a hamstring issue and is not expected back until at least March.
Arteta previously stated that Saka’s return would depend on his recovery process, with several stages of rehab still to go through.
Gabriel Jesus is also sidelined after suffering an ACL knee injury during Arsenal’s FA Cup tie with Manchester United in January.
The club confirmed that Jesus would undergo surgery for the injury.
With Arsenal failing to bolster their attack during the January transfer window, Arteta expressed frustration over the lack of reinforcements. “We had a clear intention to improve our squad with players who can make an impact, but we haven’t achieved that,” Arteta said in a recent press conference. “We only want to bring in certain types of players, and we have to be disciplined with that.”

When asked if the lack of activity in the transfer market felt like a gamble, Arteta responded, “It’s not a gamble, it’s reality. We have to face the reality as it is.”
Critical Fixtures Ahead for Arsenal
Arsenal, currently second in the Premier League, trail leaders Liverpool by seven points.
The club now faces a crucial run of fixtures starting with a trip to Leicester City on 15 February, followed by matches against West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
With their attacking options severely limited, Arteta must find solutions quickly if Arsenal is to maintain its title challenge.
