At two church dedications September 12 i Abuja, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led some clerics and congregations to pray for God to grant Nigeria victory over sponsors and perpetrators of violence in the country.

In the prayers led by some of the clerics, there appeared a pattern—of preference, sort of. And it makes a lot more meaning in Nigeria going through ethno-religious turmoil.

According to Osinbajo, as the federal government continues to work hard at finding solutions to the challenges confronting the nation, clergymen and congregants should also pray fervently for the nation to overcome these challenges.

The vice president first visited the Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of all Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Henry Ndukuba where the first prayers were offered.

Ndukuba, assisted by Bishop of Kubwa Diocese, Bishop Duke Akamisoko, led the prayers for the security, peace and prosperity of Nigeria.

Archbishop Ndukuba prayed God to fill with the Holy Spirit and wisdom President Muhammadu Buhari, his vice president and other officials of the present administration wisdom to lead the country.

Critics say the administration is full of Muslims. How much they need the Holy Spirit is at issue.

“When they speak, grant them utterance that comes from the Holy Spirit, fill their hearts with wisdom, and give them kindness of mind,” said Ndukuba.

“And being filled and led by you, oh Holy Spirit, they will fulfill their purpose. And in this government, Lord, may your name be glorified.”

Also Bishop Akamisoko of Kubwa Diocese prayed for unity of the nation.

After blessing the four cardinal points of Nigeria, the bishop selectively prayed for those he believed needed the prayer.

Akamisoko asked God to grant wisdom, good health, sound mind to Osinbajo and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, to be able to administer the country successfully.

Many believe Osinbajo and Mutapha are Christians, and are believe to be the major active players in the administration, though o short lease by Buhari’s cabal.

Clerics passing Buhari by during prayers is just catching on.

Last week, the National Daily reported how an Islamic cleric said Buhari’s administration is no longer worth praying for.

I don’t think primate Henry Ndukuba could have otherwise; lesser clerics not under d grip of politics or polical power can pray otherwise. Today is not like days of yore when prophets and chief priest are under d grip of Holy Spirit and can only be moved by such, not by presidency or political power. Had d primate Ndukuba prayed otherwise, DSS will invite him for praying nonsense, which means politics has already determined prayer before d man of God can pray in A uja, unfortunately.
