Atiku, Kwankwaso, Tambuwal out of 2023 presidential race

The latest decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its national chairmanship position to North appears to have buried the 2023 presidential ambitions of some prominent northerners in the party.

There are indications that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Kano State governor, Musa Kwankwaso, Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, who are said to be eyeing the party’s presidential ticket in the election may have to jettison their ambition or look elsewhere following the decision.

The Chairman of the PDP Zoning Committee and Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, had on Thursday announced the new zoning arrangement.

Ugwuanyi said National Working Committee (NWC) positions currently being held would be swapped between the North and the South.

Though the Enugu governor said the mandate of his committee did not include zoning of the office President and Vice President, it is part of the party’s tradition that its national chairman and presidential candidate are not produced by the same zone.
