The Niger State Head of Civil Service, Hajiya Salamatu Abubakar, has urged civil servants to embrace regular exercise in order to be physically and mentally fit to discharge their duties effectively.
Abubakar, made this known on Friday in Minna, when she received the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), led by Mr George Daniya.
“There is plan by the office of the HoS and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to revive the monthly keep-fit exercise for civil servants in Niger state,” she said.
Abubakar explained that the idea got stalled as a result of recent security challenges and youth restiveness witnessed in Minna and environs.
The HoS who said that the visit by the SWAN was a prompter to restore the exercise, reiterated government’s commitment to ensure that the workers keep-fit, toward quality and efficient service delivery.
On the issue of Inter-School Sports, Abubakar said that the state Ministry for Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) will workout modalities to revive it.
She commended SWAN for the visit as well as reportage on sporting activities in the state, saying that the visit was timely and apt.
Earlier, Daniya said that there was the need to revive the monthly keep-fit exercise as it promote healthy leaving and enhances productivity amongst the workers.
He appealed to the HoS to organise annual “Civil Service Games” for the state workers in order to promote sports..
