Donald Trump demands big Pharma reveal COVID-19 vaccine data, questions legacy

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a blunt demand for pharmaceutical companies to release all data related to their COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, raising fresh questions about the transparency of Operation Warp Speed, the program his administration launched in 2020 to fast-track vaccine development.

In a fiery Labor Day post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public. I want them to show them NOW … and clear up this MESS, one way or the other!!!”

Trump, who once hailed Operation Warp Speed as a “brilliant success,” hinted that the program’s results may not have been as groundbreaking as claimed.

He suggested that a lack of disclosure by drugmakers has undermined public trust and made it harder for agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines.

“Many people think they are a miracle that saved millions of lives. Others disagree! With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW,” Trump wrote.

His comments come just weeks after the CDC announced a sweeping review of COVID-19 vaccine safety and efficacy.

The newly created “COVID-19 Immunization Workgroup,” housed under the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), is being led by Retsef Levi, Ph.D., a professor at MIT Sloan School of Management.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, echoed Trump’s call, posting on X:“We need to know what the data says and where it is coming from, so the CDC and HHS can make the best decisions.”

Mary Holland, CEO of Children’s Health Defense, praised Trump’s remarks, arguing that they “may portend a greater truth-telling about these products.”

She reiterated her group’s position that COVID-19 shots “should be removed from the marketplace, given their record of danger and ineffectiveness.”

Dr. Clayton J. Baker, an internal medicine physician, described Trump’s shift in tone as “momentous,” saying it marked “a remarkable departure from his former insistence that Operation Warp Speed was a great success.”

He added that Trump’s words suggest he “no longer has confidence in the information he has been getting from drug companies.”

Nebraska chiropractor Ben Tapper also seized on the statement, calling Operation Warp Speed “a giant science experiment.”

He pointed to Pfizer’s history of legal troubles, including a $2.3 billion settlement in 2009 for illegal drug marketing, as evidence of why the public should demand transparency.

Attorney Rick Jaffe added that Trump’s remarks could be a turning point: “Once a president calls for answers, it becomes much harder for CDC, FDA and the drugmakers to keep stonewalling. The American people deserve transparency, and this may finally be the moment when accountability starts.”

Trump’s demand signals a sharp re-examination of one of his administration’s most high-profile initiatives. Supporters say the vaccines saved lives during the pandemic, while critics claim pharmaceutical companies concealed key safety data and overstated effectiveness.

With Trump now joining calls for full disclosure, experts say the pressure on federal health agencies and vaccine manufacturers to release complete datasets has never been higher.
