The Edo State House of Assembly has raised serious alarm over the rising wave of killings and insecurity plaguing the Igueben Constituency, demanding an urgent and well-coordinated security intervention throughout the state.
Resuming plenary on Monday after the Easter recess, the lawmakers heard a deeply troubling personal account from Hon. Eugene Inegbeboh, the representative for Igueben.
Hon. Inegbeboh detailed a disturbing sequence of violent attacks allegedly perpetrated by suspected Fulani herdsmen within his constituency.
Among the incidents recounted was the brutal killing of a local hunter, Ehije Moses, in the Udo community on Easter Sunday. According to Hon. Inegbeboh, Moses was murdered shortly after his courageous act of rescuing eight kidnapped victims.
He also reported another horrifying attack that occurred on April 25th, where a woman and her four children were targeted.
Tragically, one of the children was killed, while the remaining family members sustained serious injuries.
While a comprehensive debate on the escalating insecurity was deferred to allow for more in-depth deliberation, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, acknowledged the urgent nature of the crisis.

He stressed the critical need for a collaborative and strategic approach to effectively curb the growing insecurity, not only in the severely affected Igueben Constituency but across the entirety of Edo State.
“This is not just about Igueben,” Speaker Agbebaku emphasized. “It is a statewide concern that requires political will, community collaboration, and decisive security interventions.”
In a separate development during the plenary session, the Assembly members paused to pay their respects to the late Hon. B. A. Itua, a former minority leader who served under the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) during Nigeria’s Second Republic.
A minute of silence was observed in his honor following the announcement of his passing by Hon. Sunday Fada, representing Esan Central Constituency.
The House subsequently adjourned its sitting until Tuesday, April 29, 2025, with a palpable expectation for a more extensive and crucial debate on the pressing insecurity crisis gripping the state.
