The Edo State Government has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to create civil unrest under the guise of protests and rallies to advance their political agenda.
The government claims the APC’s strategy stems from their candidate, Monday Okpebholo, who has reportedly struggled to effectively communicate his vision and has been a source of embarrassment for the party due to his perceived lack of competence.
In response to the perceived weakness of their candidate and the failure of their misinformation campaigns, the APC is allegedly planning to disrupt the state’s peace through riots and protests.
This, the government suggests, is a tactic to divert attention from the candidate’s shortcomings and to avoid public debates.
“Their candidate, Monday Okpebholo, has continued to embarrass the party and his handlers in private and public fora with his poor grasp of basic concepts and intellectual immaturity, consistently displaying an inability to articulate and coherently sell his vision to the electorate and other key stakeholders.

“Reeling from the pains of selling a bad and unmarketable candidate and having failed in their desperate resort to lies and propaganda to hoodwink Edo people ahead of the September 21 governorship election, the only path the APC in Edo State now sees to promote their campaigns is to cause chaos and crisis in the State.
“We urge the APC to refrain from their divisive tactics and resort to violence. They should instead bring their candidate out to speak to the people, even if it is in pidgin or his local Esan dialect, and as well debate with other candidates.
“Edo people deserve to hear directly from him to enable them to make informed decisions ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the State.
“The Edo State Government has alerted security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the Brigade Commander, 4 Brigade, Benin, about the APC’s purported plans.
“They vow to take all necessary legal measures to prevent any chaos and to ensure justice for those involved in orchestrating unrest.
The government urges the APC to focus on engaging with voters through debates and discussions rather than resorting to violence and chaos. They stress that elections should be contested through civil discourse, not through disruptive tactics.
