Elon Musk, tech billionaire and owner of social media platform X (formerly Twitter), ignited a political and media firestorm on Thursday with a bombshell allegation that former U.S. President Donald Trump is named in the still-partially sealed files related to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender.
The controversy erupted following a stark and unsubstantiated post shared with Musk’s 187 million followers on X. “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk wrote.
The explosive statement sent shockwaves through Washington and beyond, immediately dominating headlines and fueling renewed debates about transparency in the years-long Epstein investigation.
While Musk provided no evidence to support the claim, the weight of his public stature has intensified calls for the complete disclosure of Epstein-related records.
To date, neither Trump nor his representatives have issued a public response. The former president has previously acknowledged knowing Epstein but insisted that their relationship was minimal and denied any wrongdoing or close ties.
In 2019, Trump stated that he had a “falling out” with Epstein many years earlier and had distanced himself.
The U.S. Department of Justice has declined to comment on Musk’s statement. Legal experts, however, note that if Musk’s assertion were ever corroborated by official documents, it could carry significant political and legal ramifications — especially amid ongoing concerns about elite accountability in the Epstein case.
Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, a death ruled a suicide by authorities.
His connections to a vast web of prominent individuals — including royalty, business magnates, politicians, and celebrities — have fueled speculation for years, especially regarding who may have been complicit or aware of his crimes.

Despite multiple lawsuits and judicial efforts to release Epstein’s full set of documents, a considerable portion of the files remains sealed. Musk, who has previously advocated for full transparency in the case, has used his platform to push for public access to all names and records connected to Epstein’s activities.
“This isn’t about politics,” Musk said in a follow-up comment to a user. “It’s about the public’s right to know who was involved. No one should be protected.”
Musk’s decision to spotlight Trump in connection to Epstein — without presenting evidence — has drawn sharp criticism from some quarters for being inflammatory and irresponsible. Others, however, see it as a provocative move to force the hand of authorities in releasing the full trove of Epstein’s documents.
As the political fallout continues, calls for the release of Epstein’s full files are growing louder. Whether Musk’s claim proves true or not, one thing is clear: his words have thrust the Epstein scandal back into the center of national discourse, potentially reshaping the political landscape once again.
