The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an alleged internet fraudster accused of confining a young woman for money rituals at a hotel in Abuja. The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
In a statement issued on Thursday night, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that the victim, believed to have been held by her boyfriend, was found at the Top View Hotel in Wuse, Abuja.
The alleged boyfriend reportedly intended to use the young woman for ritual purposes, a common scheme associated with some forms of cybercrime in Nigeria, often referred to as “Yahoo Plus” activities.
The NSCDC has taken the suspect into custody, but according to Adeh, the police are still awaiting the formal handover of the individual for further investigation.

“The FCT Police Command, for all intents and purposes, awaits the NSCDC to hand over all parties for the commencement of diligent and discreet investigation,” Adeh said in the statement.
“Further developments will be communicated in due course.”
The case has raised concerns about the growing trend of internet fraud and ritual-related crimes in Nigeria, where desperate individuals often resort to occult practices to gain wealth.
The authorities are now focusing on the investigation, which is expected to involve cross-agency cooperation between the NSCDC and the police.
Local authorities are working to ensure that the suspect is prosecuted, and the public is reassured of their commitment to combating both internet fraud and ritual-related crimes in the region.
The victim, meanwhile, is receiving necessary care and support, as police efforts to uncover more details behind the incident are underway.
