The Nigerian government is set to collect tolls from federal highways, according to Minister of Works and Housing David Umahi.

Umahi said on Wednesday that the government has completed the design of toll plazas and is in the process of selecting a private company to operate the tolls. He said the tolls will be used to maintain and improve federal roads.

The government has been considering the reintroduction of tolls on federal highways since 2019. The tolls were scrapped in 2003.

The decision to reintroduce tolls has been met with mixed reactions. Some people support the move, saying that it will help to improve the quality of federal roads. Others oppose the move, saying that it will be a burden on motorists.

The tolls are expected to be implemented in the coming months.
