Erik ten Hag is definitely in cloud nine after the arrival of his top target at England for medicals.
The report reveals that United are closing in on their third signing of the summer. National Daily learnt that Rasmus Hojlund has arrived at Manchester Airport. This is ahead of completing his proposed £72million move to Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old arrived Ringway at approximately 4:15pm after United agreed a deal with Atalanta for him over the weekend. Hojlund has emerged as an unused substitute in Atalanta’s pre-season win over Bournemouth on Saturday. The move could be a possible precaution with his deal edging closer.
Hojlund is expected to complete his United’s transfer after arriving England for medicals on Tuesday
The Dane will undergo a medical before completing a five-year contract at Old Trafford – with a further 12-month option. Atalanta are expecting an initial £64m fee from the Red Devils. The Serie A giants are also expecting a potential further £8m performance-related add-ons.
Hojlund’s arrival will bring to an end a summer-long search for United’s centre forward at Old Trafford. The young attacker made 34 appearances for Atalanta last season where he scored 10 goals.
Hojlund’s deal will bring United’s summer spending above £150m after the arrival of Mason Mount and Andre Onana. Ten Hag £120m transfer budget was increased after United hierarchy budged and handed him extra funds.
National Daily understands that United’s left back Luke Shaw sent a transfer plea to the Glazers. This is as the club continued to search for a new striker. “We’ve already signed some very good players and hopefully there’s more additions to come to strengthen the squad,” the left-back said on Monday.
“I don’t really want to comment too much on that [Hojlund deal]. I think obviously he’s not our player yet, so I won’t say too much. Of course, we’ve got [Anthony] Martial, [Marcus] Rashford at the moment and [Jadon] Sancho, who can play there. But an out-and-out striker is what we need and we’re desperate for one. I’m very sure that the club know that, the manager knows that and us players would love one to come, too.”
Hojlund could make his United debut in a friendly against Lens on Saturday and will be available for the start of the competitive season – just as Ten Hag wanted. The Red Devils face Wolves at Old Trafford in their opening Premier League encounter on August 14.
