FMC Keffi issues two-week ultimatum for collection of unclaimed corpses

The management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Keffi, Nasarawa State, has given a two-week ultimatum to the relatives of unclaimed corpses in its morgue to collect them, or the bodies will be disposed of.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Miss Esther Bature, Head of Public Relations/Protocol at FMC Keffi, the management revealed that some of the bodies have been in the morgue for over six months, exceeding the legally permissible period for storage.

As a result, the hospital is facing growing concerns about the potential health risks posed by the unclaimed corpses.

“The bodies now pose a potential health hazard to the hospital and its surrounding community,” Bature said in the statement.

“We urge members of the public who have missing relatives to visit the hospital’s morgue for possible identification and retrieval of the bodies.”

The two-week deadline, effective from Tuesday, November 5, will give relatives the opportunity to collect the remains.

If the bodies remain unclaimed by the expiration of the ultimatum, FMC Keffi stated that it would have no choice but to proceed with their evacuation and disposal.
