The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has mobilized its personnel and a fleet of 1,186 patrol vehicles and motorbikes nationwide to bolster road safety and traffic management during the Easter celebrations.

This deployment was announced in a statement released by FRSC Spokesman, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Wednesday in Abuja.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has directed all Commanding Officers to ensure the strategic deployment of resources for the swift removal of obstructions and the facilitation of smooth traffic flow on all highways throughout the country.

This directive aligns with the operational guidelines for the 2025 Easter special patrol, scheduled to run from Thursday through April 23rd.

Mohammed outlined the primary objectives of the special operations, which include a substantial reduction in Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs), Road Traffic Fatalities (RTFs), and Road Traffic Injuries (RTIs).

Other key goals include providing prompt and efficient response to road traffic crash victims, delivering impactful public education, and ensuring the rapid removal of any obstructions from the highways.

He assured the public that the FRSC will achieve these objectives through a combination of proactive engagement with motorists via targeted public education programs, intensified surveillance to curb unprofessional driving behaviors, sustained and effective patrol operations, and rigorous monitoring of highway conditions.

“To achieve this, over 743 patrol vehicles, 184 administrative vehicles, 92 ambulances, 23 tow trucks, and 144 motorbikes are being deployed as part of the patrol logistics,” Mohammed stated.

“Furthermore, reflective jackets, traffic cones, tyre pressure gauges, a number of extricating machines, and digital breathalyzers are part of the tools set aside for the special operations.”

He added, “A total of 23 Help Areas are mobilized to ensure prompt removal of obstructions and rescue operations during the period. This is in addition to the 15 traffic control camps which would be dedicated solely to identifying traffic gridlock areas to be manned by our personnel on a 24/7 basis. This is also in addition to 28 RTCs clinics and 53 Zebra points located along the major routes. This would be covered by 92 ambulances to be fully utilised for prompt response to crashes and rescue of injured victims to hospitals for more professional attention.”

The FRSC boss expressed confidence that the Easter celebrations would be conducted safely and successfully due to the extensive deployment of personnel and logistics, as well as the anticipated public cooperation.

He reassured the motoring public of the FRSC’s unwavering commitment to fostering road safety and extended wishes for safe and peaceful Easter celebrations to all Nigerians.
