Security operatives rescue 13 abducted passengers in Benue
The victims are being profiled before they are reunited with their families.
The 13 kidnapped Benue Links passengers that were abducted at Eke in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State have been rescued in a joint effort led by the police with local vigilantees.
In a significant security breakthrough, thirteen passengers abducted in Benue State have been successfully rescued through joint efforts by security forces and local vigilantes.
This positive development comes as Governor Hyacinth Alia concurrently condemns the barbaric killing of two Kano indigenes in the state, vowing swift justice for the perpetrators.
The successful rescue of the thirteen abducted passengers of a Hummer bus (registration number 14B-143BN), initially ambushed and robbed along the Eke axis before being whisked into a nearby bush, was confirmed by Adah Inalegwu, the Chairman of the Okpokwu Local Government Area.
Speaking to the press , Inalegwu detailed the operations, explaining that sustained pressure from joint police and vigilante teams combing the forest led to the rescue of two passengers on Saturday.
The breakthrough intensified on Sunday when the enlistment of youths from neighboring Kogi State further pressured the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon the remaining eleven victims at Oando village around 4:00 pm.
The LGA chairman credited Governor Hyacinth Alia’s provision of logistics, improved security surveillance, and tracking for playing a crucial role in the successful rescue operation. The freed victims are currently undergoing profiling before their joyous reunion with their families.
Meanwhile, Governor Hyacinth Alia has strongly condemned the tragic killing of two indigenes of Kano State at the Agan settlement in Makurdi by criminals.
Describing the act as “barbaric and unacceptable,” Governor Alia has issued immediate directives for the perpetrators to be apprehended and brought to justice.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, five suspects have already been swiftly arrested by the state police command in Makurdi in connection with the incident, following the Governor’s stern directives to security operatives.
Governor Alia expressed profound sadness over the brutal attack and murder of the two men, identified as indigenes of Kano State who were merely traveling through Benue.
He emphasized that “Benue people are known for their hospitality and peaceful disposition,” asserting, “We cannot allow some criminal elements to tarnish our image and create a contrary image for our people. These criminals MUST be fished out immediately and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The dual developments underscore the dynamic and challenging security landscape in Benue State, with authorities recording both significant successes in rescue operations and renewed commitment to tackling violent crime.
