The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission alongside the Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Company has urged the Bauchi Emirate Council and the Nigerian Police to help stem the tide of energy theft and vandalism of Electricity facilities in the State.
The Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Musiliu Oseni made the call during a courtesy call on the Emir of Bauchi, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman in his Palace and the Commissioner of Police Mr. Umar Mamman Sanda last Monday.
Dr. Oseni who decried the menace of vandals and energy thieves in the country called for a concerted effort by the Royal fathers as well as the police to tackle the problem which he said was dangerously bedeviling the industry.
In his words, “Your Royal Majesty, we are here to seek your support to enable the company to function effectively, especially in the fight against vandalism.
He stated further that, “the various communities in your domain should be enlightened on the dangers of vandalism and energy theft because when these facilities are vandalised, it is the community that will be affected most as it will be without light until it is repaired or replaced”.
He also urged the Emir to help in sensitization of his subjects to pay for their consumed energy when due saying that on the part of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, it will ensure that the customers are adequately protected.
According to him, ” we are here to see that customers are given adequate power supply. We have seen their customers’ processes”.
Responding, the Emir of Bauchi, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleman Adamu, CFR, who expressed appreciation for the visit assured them of his support.
He, therefore, commended the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc for the stable power supply they have been enjoying in Bauchi State recently.
On his part, the Commissioner of Police assured the Vice Chairman and the Managing Director of cooperation within the mandate of the police force.
