The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in its judgement in a suit brought before it by ousted National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, not only dismissed the appeal for lack of merit but also lampooned Secondus for seeking ‘self-induced urgency’ to obstruct the democratic process of the PDP in electing new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) at the national convention on Saturday.

The three-man panel in a unanimous judgement on Friday read by Justice Gabriel Kolawale, turned down the appeal filed Secondus on October 14, 2021, for lacking in merit.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole in the judgment declared that the application of Secondus to halt the PDP national convention reflected an act of “self-induced urgency” to obstruct a democratic and lawful process of electing new leaders for the party.

Justice Kolawole scolded Secondus for waiting too long before seeking the suspension of the convention which the PDP Acting National Chairman, Yemi Akinwonmi, had earlier communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The court acknowledged that Secondus duly handed over to Akinwonmi as acting national chairman.

Justice Kolawole had further noted that the notice of the convention written by the acting chairman to INEC was not opposed by Secondus, neither did Secondus challenge the response of INEC to the PDP through the acting national chairman.

Secondus lost out in the suit  but refused to give up.
