IDPs advised to embrace entrepreneurship

THE IDP camp at Durumi in Abuja went agog in celebration over the weekend. This was at the occasion of the graduation ceremony of IDPs from the Skills Acquisition Programme facilitated by the Coalition of Nigeria Muslim Women.

The well attended Ceremony was for 2 IDP Camp within FCT namely Durumi and Karmajiji.

In her opening remarks at the Occasion, Hajia Nafisat Arogundade advised IDPs to embrace Entrepreneurship. She noted that the decision of the Coalition of Nigeria Muslim Women to initiate the Skills Acquisition Programme was in the line with the teachings of the holy Qur’an which enjoins all faithful to help the less privileged in the society.

She also advised the graduates of the Skills Acquisition Programme to sharpen their Skills in whatever hand work they have been trained in order to command a competitive edge over others in the market.

In her own comment during the occasion, Hajia Ramatu Musa Sani, the National Vice President of Women in DAWA and Coordinator, Coalition of Nigeria Muslim Women stated that about 200 IDPs participated in the skills acquisition programme from the two IDP Camps.

According to Hajia Sani, the Coalition will support the graduates of the Skills Acquisition Programme with tools in their various hand works as a means of empowering them. She also stated the 20 Foot Sewing Machines will be given out to the best 20 graduates in the tailoring sector from the 2 IDP camps. She further enjoins the graduates to be focused and entrepreneurial in order to enable them support their various families. Sani also stated that the coalition of Nigerian Muslim Women embarked on the Skills Acquisition Programme for IDPs because “as Muslims Women, we wish to touch life”. The IDPs were trained in Tailoring, shoes and bag making, bead making and GSM repair. The products of the trainees were sold to raise fund which was later given to the trainees as take off funds.
