IGP Baba bags National Daily Man of the Year award

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba on Friday night bagged the prestigious National Daily Man of the Year award at the National Daily Newspaper award of excellence.

The event, held at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos was chaired by Prince Julius Adelusi Adeluyi OFR mni, Chairman, Juli Plc, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, was the Special Guest of Honour.

Presenting the award to IGP Baba, former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo described him as a very diligent police officer who has brought the culture of transparency, accountability and good leadership, which has become the hallmark of his leadership of the police force.

He also charged governments both at the federal and state levels to live up to expectation and make the welfare of people who dedicated their lives to security services, especially the Nigerian Police force paramount.

Receiving the award, IGP Baba thanked the management of National Daily Newspaper for considering him worthy of the award.

He also called for synergy and cooperation between security agencies and individuals in addressing the current security challenges facing the country, while commending his predecessors.

According to him “We cannot afford to lose more souls to the killings that are going on in our country, hence it’s expedient that stakeholders in security affairs work together towards making our country a secured nation devoid of rancour”, he said.

Uyi also advocated for an increase in allowances payable to them and equally asked for the strengthening of the workforce.

“IGP Usman Alkali Baba’s appointment came at a promising time, when Nigerians need a man who has the vision and a road map towards bringing an end to the various insecurity challenges obstructing economic activities with the colossal loss of lives and property.”

Earlier in his remark, Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of National Daily newspaper/National Standard Magazine, Sylvester Ebhodaghe, said the award is in recognition of IGP Baba’s commitment and determination in tackling all forms of criminalities, and the high morale within the rank and file of the police.

“It was under his watch that the Nigeria Police have witnessed a tremendous increase and improvement in the purchase of armaments and accoutrements for policemen including the rebranding of the Force to meet with global best standards and citizens’ satisfaction based on his leadership style and direction of the police,” he added.
