The llorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (lEDPU) has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently repair some damaged portions of the llorin-Jebba highway.
The union said that this would prevent avoid articulated vehicles from plying some traditional routes in the llorin metropolis.
Alhaji Otta Aliyu-Uthman, the National President of the Union, made the appeal in llorin on Tuesday while reacting to influx of articulated vehicles in several parts of llorin traditional areas.
According to him, the diversion of trailers travelling to the north and south part of the country is causing hardship for the residents of the llorin Emirate.
He noted that for the past few weeks, the people of Ilorin living at Ogidi, Oloje, Pakata, Adeta and Alfa Yahaya and Geri Alimi among others were living with discomfort following the development.
The National President of the lEDPU, who appreciated the Federal Government’s effort for embarking on the construction of the highway called for urgent repair of the bad portions to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.
Aliyu-Uthmaan appealed to the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola,
to ensure that immediate actions are taken to save the people of the affected parts from auto accidents.
In a swift reaction, the Federal Controller of Works in Kwara, Alhaji Wasiu Atitebi, said a request for an intervention on the repair of damaged portions of the road had been sent to the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja.
He appealed to the residents of the llorin metropolis to exercise patience as the Federal Government is working round the clock to endure urgent repair of the highway.
He appealed to both federal and state traffic agencies to continue to assist in the control of traffic in all the traditional areas of llorin being used as alternatives by the articulated vehicles.
