The National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has released timetable for the 2023 general elections. The timetable highlights political activities in the build up to the 2023 presidential and gubernatorial elections.

The INEC timetable indicated that  the commission will in March 2022 give guidelines to the respective parties on conducting primary elections for the nomination of candidates for the 2023 general elections.

The timetable indicated that campaign for presidential and gubernatorial elections will kick off in April 2022, while party Congresses will hold across Nigeria in May 2022.

Details of the timetable are highlighted below:

 

  1. Consultation continues January: 1-31

 

  1. Intensive consultation continues February: 1-28

 

  1. March: INEC gives guideline for aspirants, candidates, parties in respect of congress, primary election, and campaign.

 

  1. April: Campaign for Presidential and Gubernatorial elections.

 

  1. May: Party Congresses.

 

  1. June: Party Primary Elections.

 

  1. July: Petitions on Primary elections.

 

  1. August: Court of Appeal hearing on Primary elections conducted.

 

  1. September: Supreme Court verdict on all Primary elections. Candidates and winners for Presidential & Gubernatorial flag bearer of Parties contesting.

 

  1. October: Aggressive campaign by candidates/Parties across the federation.

 

  1. November: Campaign continues.

 

  1. December: Peace Accord signed by all presidential and Gubernatorial candidates.

 

  1. February 2023: Presidential and National Assembly elections

 

  1. March 2023: Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections.

 

“Plan your Calendar for 2022 with this on your mind,” the commission urged parties and politicians.
