Lagos Assembly confirms Sanwo-Olu nominees, rejects two others

The Lagos State House of Assembly, on Thursday, confirmed 15 out of the second list of 18 nominees sent by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for ratification and confirmation.

Among those confirmed by the Assembly are the immediate-past Commissioners for Health and Information and Strategy, Professor Akin Abayomi and Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, respectively, who were rejected by the Assembly during the first screening.

Among those rejected on Thursday are former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Sam Egube, who was also rejected in the first list presented by Sanwo-Olu.

Also, former Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Olalere Odusote was rejected for the second time by the Assembly.

A new nominee, Tolani Akibu, was also rejected by the House.

The confirmation was done through a voice votes as the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa mentioned the names of the nominees.

The lawmakers unanimously rejected two names and put on hold one name, saying it would be revisited later.

Obasa who commended the committee led by Hon. Fatai Mojeed asked the clerk, Olalekan Onafeko to send the list of the nominees to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Recall that Governor Sanwo-Olu represented 18 nominees to the Assembly on Monday.

Names of the nominees affirmed are as follows:

  2. Mr. Oluwaseun Oriyomi Osiyemi
  3. Prof. Akinola Emmanuel Abayomi
  4. Dr. Oluwarotimi Omotola Wahab Fashola
  5. Mrs. Folashade Kaosarat Ambrose-Medem
  6. Mr. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe
  7. Mrs. Bolaji Cecelia Dada
  8. Mrs. Barakat Akande Bakare
  9. Mr. Olugbenga Omotoso
  10. Mr. Mosopefolu George
  11. Yekini Nurudeen Agbaje
  12. Dr. Olumide Oluyinka
  13. Mr. Abayomi Samson Oluyomi
  14. Dr. Iyabode Oyeyemi Ayoola
  15. Hon. Sola Shakirudeen Giwa

Meanwhile, the House of Assembly adjourned to Tuesday 12 September, 2023
