Lagos Begins Major Ogunnusi Road Reconstruction, Here’s What Drivers Need to Know

The Lagos State Government has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan ahead of the Federal Ministry of Works’ reconstruction and expansion of Ogunnusi Road in Ikeja Local Government Area, with works set to begin on Friday, March 6, 2026.
The project covers the 9-kilometre dual carriageway between Ojodu-Berger Bus-Stop and Mobil Filling Station Junction and is expected to run through January 6, 2028. Phase 1, which kicks off this Friday, will focus on a 4.5-kilometre stretch from Ojodu-Berger inward Mobil Filling Station Junction (Ijaye/Agege bound) and is scheduled for completion by February 6, 2027.

No vehicular access will be permitted within the designated work zone for the duration of construction.
Motorists heading toward Ijaye/Agege via Ogunnusi Road from Ojodu-Berger will be placed on a contraflow along the Ojodu-Berger-bound carriageway for approximately one kilometre before rejoining the main road. As an alternative, drivers may use Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo Way, connecting through Otunba Jobifele Way, Obafemi Awolowo Way, and Lateef Jakande Road to reach their destinations.
Articulated vehicles and trucks travelling from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway toward Agege are advised to take an alternative route: through Ojota/Maryland, onto Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, then via Kodesoh Street, Oba Akran Avenue, Guinness Roundabout, Ogba Road, and Pen Cinema.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
Drivers coming from Ijaye/Agege toward Ojodu-Berger will experience through traffic but will be briefly diverted into a contraflow lane near the work zone before regaining full road access on the other side of the construction area.
To manage incidents during the construction period, towing vehicles will be stationed at strategic points along the corridor to ensure quick recovery operations and minimise disruption.
