Nigerian troops maintain pressure on boko haram in Northeast operations

Nigerian troops remain resolute in their fight against insurgency, consistently engaging and neutralizing Boko Haram terrorists and elements of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in fierce encounters within the Northeast.

Recent reports from military sources indicate ongoing operations that are yielding significant results in degraded the capabilities of these terror groups.

Just yesterday, July 1, 2025, troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI reportedly eliminated 10 terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition following offensives aimed at ridding the region of insurgents.

A statement from the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Réuben Kovangiya, detailed a coordinated operation in terrorists’ hideouts in the southern Lake Chad region of Borno State, near the Cameroon border.

The intense fire fight led to the successful elimination of the terrorists, who had been disrupting peace in the area.

This comes on the heels of earlier successes, including an incident in late May where the Nigerian Army reportedly killed at least 60 Boko Haram terrorists after repelling an attack on a military base in Bita, Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.

Such sustained efforts reflect the military’s commitment to maintaining momentum against the insurgency.

Despite these ongoing successes, the fight against terrorism remains complex.

Human Rights Watch recently noted a resurgence of suicide bombings in the conflict, raising concerns about the evolving tactics of these groups.

Nevertheless, the Nigerian military continues to emphasize its determination to deny terrorists freedom of action and sustain offensive operations across the Northeast, in line with directives from the Chief of Defence Staff.

The recent graduation of 800 elite Special Operations Forces is also set to further boost Nigeria’s capacity in combating all forms of insecurity, including terrorism, across high-risk areas.
