The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the commencement of a nationwide ward-level registration and enrollment exercise for the issuance of the National Identification Number (NIN), set to begin on Monday, February 16, 2026.

The move comes in line with a presidential directive to take NIN enrollment directly to communities across the country.

The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), aimed at promoting inclusive governance, national development, and easy access to identity services for all citizens and legal residents, including children and adults.

Registration and enrollment for the NIN will be free of charge.

By taking enrollment to the ward level, NIMC aims to make identity registration more accessible, reduce travel burdens, and encourage widespread participation. The exercise represents a strategic step toward deepening identity inclusion and ensuring that every Nigerian and legal resident is captured in the National Identity Database.

Ahead of the exercise, NIMC has engaged national, state, and local government stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, faith-based organizations, and state governments, to facilitate smooth registration.

Sensitization campaigns have also been launched to highlight the importance and benefits of obtaining a NIN.

The Commission urges all Nigerians and legal residents who are yet to enroll to participate fully. Citizens are encouraged to register themselves, their children, parents, and other family members within their communities.

The ward enrollment schedules, which outline the rotational deployment of NIMC staff and licensed front-end partners, are available on the NIMC website at www.nimc.gov.ng

This nationwide ward-level NIN enrollment exercise marks a significant milestone in expanding access to identity services and ensuring that all Nigerians are officially recognized in the country’s national identity system.
