Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality projects that provide value to the people, regardless of personal relationships or political pressures.

Speaking during an extensive inspection tour of ongoing projects in Asaba, the state capital, on Thursday, Governor Oborevwori underscored the importance of competence, integrity, and value for money as central pillars of his administration’s M.O.R.E (Meaningful Development, Opportunity for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security) Agenda.

The governor inspected numerous infrastructure projects, including the Ogbeosonwe, Ogbeilo Road, Ogbogonogo Market storm drainage project, and Ogbe-Ofu Road, Off Jarret Road in Cable Point.

He also assessed work on the 1.7km Amaechi Agusi Street and its 10 adjoining streets, which include Dorah Allanah Street, Oluu Street, Burutu Drive, Odilison Junior Crescent, Agbogun Close, Ngozi Odiaka Avenue, Aloy Isomede Street, Ezeobi Ojukwu Street, and Ajudua Street in Okpanam. Other sites visited included Aretha Table Water Street off NTA Road and Redeemer’s Street in Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted his administration’s determination to prioritize the collective interest of Delta residents over individual preferences.

“I was elected to serve the people of Delta, not to cater to the interests of a select few. Friendship will not take precedence over the quality of projects we deliver to our people,” he asserted.

The governor did not mince words in addressing challenges posed by some indigenous contractors. “While we strive to support local contractors, it is disappointing that some of them fail to meet expectations. Those who deliver substandard work will face blacklisting. Quality and public interest must come first,” he warned.

Oborevwori emphasized that his administration’s approach is results-driven rather than for public show. “We are not here for media stunts. What we are doing is real, and I will not compromise on standards. Contractors who wish to remain in my good books must ensure they deliver excellent work. If not, they will be shown the door,” he stated firmly.

On the issue of upward reviews of project costs, Governor Oborevwori acknowledged the rising costs of materials due to inflation and currency fluctuations.

“Rates have increased significantly, with the dollar moving from N750 to about N1,600. We consider such realities before approving cost reviews, but only for projects awarded in 2022 and early 2023, before my tenure began. Still, quality must remain a priority,” he said.

The governor also appealed to Asaba residents to maintain cleanliness in their neighborhoods. He directed the State Commissioner for Environment, the Chairman of the Waste Management Board, and the Taskforce on Environment to enforce compliance with sanitation regulations.

Governor Oborevwori’s remarks reaffirm his administration’s focus on delivering impactful projects that align with the aspirations of Delta State residents, ensuring that infrastructure development remains a cornerstone of his governance.
