Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking another high-profile exit from the major opposition party in Nigeria.
The resignation was formally communicated in a letter dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 3, Oke-Ejigbo, Ila-Orangun, Osun State.
The letter, which was made available to journalists on Saturday in Osogbo, cited irreconcilable differences and internal divisions as key reasons for his decision.
“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” the letter read.
“Irreconcilable differences and irreparable division have emerged, along with court cases and counter court cases in the last three years, which have created factions in the party at the national level,” Fadeyi stated.
The senator noted that his decision followed consultations with political associates, family, and close allies, and concluded his letter with an appeal for understanding from party officials.

Fadeyi’s exit follows that of Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, who had earlier resigned from the PDP, raising concerns about deepening cracks within the party’s Osun State structure and national cohesion.
Political analysts view the resignations as a significant blow to the PDP in Osun State, particularly with both senators elected under the party’s banner now distancing themselves amid what appears to be mounting internal instability.
The PDP has been grappling with internal leadership struggles, legal tussles, and factional alignments over the past few years, which have continued to erode party unity and public confidence—especially at a time when the party is attempting to reorganize ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Fadeyi has not indicated any plans to join another political party.
However, political watchers speculate that his next move could shape the balance of power in Osun and possibly at the national level, depending on emerging alliances.
