Dr. Peter Obafemi, a governorship aspirant in Ekiti under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized Governor Abiodun Oyebanji’s flyover initiative, calling it a misguided focus.
Obafemi argued that the state should focus on projects that will drive economic growth and industrialization, rather than symbolic infrastructure projects.
In a statement following a stakeholders’ meeting with Ekiti indigenes in Lagos on Sunday, Obafemi questioned the value of the flyover at the Okeyinmi-Ijigbo roundabout in Ado-Ekiti, suggesting that it lacked the strategic importance needed to benefit the state’s long-term development.
“The flyover lacks the ability to spur industrialization and bring meaningful growth to Ekiti,” Obafemi said, urging the government to prioritize initiatives that would generate jobs and attract investment.
He stressed that development in the state should be purposeful, noting that projects like the flyover did not address the economic challenges facing Ekiti.
Obafemi further expressed frustration with the current state of governance in Ekiti, stating that many political elites and lawmakers had been silenced, and the state was struggling to move forward.
He urged leaders to reclaim their voices and focus on addressing the real needs of Ekiti’s people.
“Ekiti is a land of knowledge and honor, but it is now struggling for breath,” he lamented. “It is time for us to restore the dignity of our state and ensure that the benefits of good governance reach the grassroots.”

The PDP aspirant emphasized the need for greater attention to agriculture, the empowerment of farmers, and the attraction of local and foreign investment.
He argued that Ekiti must follow the examples of other southwestern states by building its economy and creating opportunities for its people.
Obafemi also called on Gov. Oyebanji to shift his focus from what he described as “unproductive projects” and instead prioritize job creation, industrial development, and timely payment of pensioners.
He urged the governor to invest in education, healthcare, and agriculture, and to honor his campaign promises.
“The people of Ekiti are waiting for real solutions, not symbolic projects,” Obafemi said. “Gov. Oyebanji must make decisions that directly benefit the citizens of Ekiti.”
