In the run-up to the Edo State governorship election, Rev. Olu Martins, Deputy Director General of the Asue Ogie Campaign Management Council, has expressed deep concerns over the conduct of the Nigeria Police.

Martins has drawn a controversial parallel between a hide-and-seek game he plays with his son and the police’s alleged selective enforcement of the law in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Martins claims that numerous People’s Democratic Party (PDP) supporters have been unjustly arrested following a shootout at the airport, which resulted in the death of a police officer.

According to him, these arrests are politically motivated, despite live videos showing APC supporters openly brandishing weapons during the incident.

He argues that the police, much like in his game of hide-and-seek, are willfully ignoring visible evidence of APC’s involvement in the violence while targeting PDP members.

The PDP, Martins states, remains skeptical of the Nigeria Police’s impartiality. He questions why known APC figures, captured in viral videos making violent threats and carrying weapons, have not faced the same level of scrutiny or arrest.

Martins reiterated that, regardless of the police’s actions, the people of Edo are determined to elect the PDP candidates, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and Barr Osarodion Ogie, in the upcoming election. He emphasized that the PDP’s confidence in victory remains unshaken, even as tensions mount.

As the election day approaches, the PDP continues to call for fair policing and non-partisan intervention to ensure a peaceful and transparent voting process.
