Police arrest cultists, kidnappers, recover weapons in Delta

The Delta State Police Command, on Monday, disclosed the arrest of cultists, kidnappers in the state, and recovery of weapons from the arrested suspects.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, Asaba, SP. Edafe Bright, in a statement on Monday indicated @DeltaPoliceNG that as part of the effort to curb the menace of kidnapping,armed robbery and other related vices in the State, the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed that all DPOS must ensure that their Area of Responsibility is Policed adequately, urging them to embrace community-based policing.

He also directed that visibility patrol and a proactive approach to Policing is what all DPOS must adopt under his leadership.
According to the PPRO, @DeltaPoliceNG “the Command has again recorded another breakthrough in the fight against crime and criminality in “ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS/ RECOVERY OF ONE AK-47 RIFFLE, ONE ENGLISH PUMP ACTION GUN, ONE LOCALLY MADE CUT-TO-SIZE GUN AND CARTRIDGES.

The PPRO highlighted: “On 13th August 2024, while students of Delta State Polytechnic, Oghara, were having their graduation ceremony, the DPO Oghara Division received credible information that some suspected kidnappers had already perfected plans to kidnap guests who must have come to attend the ceremony.

“The DPO Oghara Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, acting on this information, reacted swiftly, mobilized, and led operatives of Oghara Division to their hideout in a bush along Otefe/Ovade Legit Road.
“The suspected kidnappers on sighting the Police took to their heels and escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries from the gun duel with the Police.

“One AK-47 Riffle, one magazine, one English pump action gun, and one locally made cut-to-size gun were recovered.”
The breakthrough in the fight against crime and criminality also resulted in the “ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTISTS AND RECOVERY OF ONE LOCALLY MADE CUT-TO-SIZE GUN WITH SIX (6) LIVES CARTRIDGE.”

The PPRO also highlighted: “On 14th of August 2024 at about 1945 hrs, Police anti-crime patrol team of Oghara Division, while on stop and search along Otefe Ijomi Community Road, intercepted a motorcycle carrying one Ovoke Benedict, aged 22 yrs “m'”, a native of Ughelli North LGA, and a computer science student of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe, Oghara and one Fredrick Urhoborume “m” aged 23yrs, of Ughelli North LGA, and a student of Business Administration at the Delta State Polytechnic Otefe Oghara.

According to the PPRO, the Policemen subjected them to a search during which one locally made cut-to-size gun with six (6) live cartridges was recovered from them.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that they are suspected to be members of Arrow Barger Confraternity investigation is ongoing,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, while thanking the good people of Delta State, urged them to do more by providing useful, credible and timely information to the Police and this will aid immensely in the fight against crime and criminality.
