The Lagos State Police Command on Monday continued a consultative meeting with government officials as commercial bus drivers take to the roads to protest harassment by LASTMA officials.

The drivers have mobilised themselves for mass protest in certain parts of Lagos on Monday.

Protest notice by the Drivers, specifying locations, time, and actions

The drivers in their protest notice specified the locations of the protest, the time and directing all buses to stay off the roads for the 10 hours protest period.

The protest notice read:

“Protest Protest Protest against LASTMA Zone 20/Hq

1. Agege
2. Iyana Ipaja
3. Egbeda
4. Abule-Egba
5. Agbado

on the 13th Nov. 2023, at 6.00am to 4.00pm

“All buses should stay off road.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in statement indicated that the Lagos State Police Command has concluded a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at addressing the proposed Monday November 13 protest by public transport drivers in Lagos State.

According to the PPRO, the stakeholders, at the conclusion of the meeting, agreed to work together to ensure obedience to all traffic laws on the part of the transporters and the checkmating of excesses of law enforcement officers within the state. The NURTW agreed to a larger meeting on Monday, November 13, 2023.

The Lagos State Police Command, thereafter, assured Lagosians that the Command has made adequate deployments in line with prioritizing their safety and security, while encouraging them to go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment or intimidation.

LAGOS STATE POLICE COMMAND CONVENES STAKEHOLDERS MEETING TO ADDRESS PROPOSED PROTEST BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT DRIVERS

The Lagos State Police Command has concluded a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at addressing the proposed Monday November 13 protest by public transport drivers in Lagos State.

At the meeting attended by the leadership of the Police Command, Lagos State Government, LASTMA and the NURTW, germane issues and concerns raised by the drivers were critically looked into.

The stakeholders, at the conclusion of the meeting, agreed to work together to ensure obedience to all traffic laws on the part of the transporters and the checkmating of excesses of law enforcement officers within the state. In addition, the NURTW agreed to a larger meeting tomorrow Monday, November 13, 2023.

At the meeting were Deputy Commissioners of Police Waheed Ayilara (SCID), Fatai Tijani (Operations), Khan Salihu (Administration), Commander Rapid Response Squad (RRS) – CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, Commander Taskforce – CSP Shola Jejeloye. Others are Honourable Sola Giwa – the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Bolaji Oreagba – General Manager LASTMA, delegates of NURTW Lagos Chapter led by Alhaji Sulyman Ojora (Kudeti) amongst others.

The Lagos State Police Command uses this medium to assure Lagosians that the Command has made adequate deployments in line with prioritizing their safety and security, while encouraging them to go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment or intimidation.
