The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday, August 10, reacted to an incident in which policemen arrested a motorist who followed the vehicles of military and police personnel to drive against traffic in what is popularly known as “One Way.”

On Wednesday morning, there was a report on Twitter in which a motorist was arrested along Maryland in Lagos State when he followed the vehicles of military and police personnel to drive against traffic while nothing was done to the vehicles of the personnel.

A man on Twitter with the handle @I_am_Sharkz had tweeted on the incident, wondering why the motorist would be arrested while security officials would be allowed to go for committing the same offence.

According to his tweet: “Benjamin Hundeyin, this happened this morning along Maryland, Lagos. The man drove behind security men’s vehicles and that was the reason for this harassment.

“However, some police officers and military officers did it first which made the man follow them but they were exempted.”

However, reacting to the situation, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed on his Twitter handle that sometimes, there could be situations when policemen and other officials including ambulances and firefighters can take one way and other unapproved routes.

This therefore should not mean that motorists should follow them when taking the one way as any motorist that does that could be arrested for traffic offence.

According to his tweet: “Ambulances, fire trucks, police vans and other first responders follow an unapproved route due to extenuating circumstances, you then follow. What exactly is your excuse?

“You resist arrest and minimum force as prescribed by law is used, then you cry foul. Sue and let’s see you win.”
