Reuben Abati, former presidential spokesperson arrested by EFCC

The former presidential spokesperson to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati  was on Monday arrested by detectives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The widely-known newspaper columnist was said to have been arrested in connection to receiving about N50million from former NSA Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) who is currently facing trial for diverting moneys met for arms procurement.

Dr. Abati was appointed Special Adviser on Media by President Goodluck Jonathan following the 2011 election.

He, however, returned to his column at The Guardian, from where he had gone into government. Since he left that office following his principal’s defeat, he has maintained low profile churning out articles one if which was “The Spiritual Side of Aso Villa”, published two weeks ago.

It was also learnt the former most minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, has also been picked up.

Bala’s house was said to have been searched by EFCC operatives. It was however not disclosed what charges would be preferred against the two arrested former public office holders.
