In a dramatic turn of events, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, a close ally of former Governor Nyesom Wike, has adjourned sine die, leaving uncertainty over the legislative process in the state.

The decision to adjourn indefinitely comes at a critical time, as Governor Siminalayi Fubara had earlier communicated to the Assembly his intention to present the state budget on Wednesday.

However, the sudden adjournment raises concerns about legislative backing for the budget and deepens the ongoing political crisis between Governor Fubara and the Wike-backed Assembly leadership.

The indefinite suspension of legislative activities is expected to heighten tensions within the state’s political landscape, especially given the longstanding power tussle between Governor Fubara and factions loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Observers believe that the adjournment could be a strategic move to frustrate the governor’s budget presentation and exert political pressure on his administration.

Meanwhile, stakeholders and political analysts are closely monitoring the situation, as the suspension of legislative activities could have far-reaching implications for governance and service delivery in Rivers State.

With no set date for resumption, uncertainty looms over the passage of the state budget and other critical legislative activities, leaving citizens and policymakers on edge regarding the next course of action.
