Rochas Okorocha has already indicated his interest in contesting in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election in Nigeria. If Rochas Okorocha takes part in at least the primaries of his party’s presidential election, it will be the fourth time he has run for the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at least in the party primary levels.
In this article, we shall look at the three previous occasions that Rochas Okorocha took part in the presidential race at the party primary levels. The first time that Rochas Okorocha took part in the race of becoming the president of Nigeria was in 2003. During the 2003 party primary elections, Rochas Okorocha contested under the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP.

During the All Nigeria Peoples Party’s presidential primary election, Okorocha had the likes of Muhammadu Buhari to contest with. At the end of a heated ANPP primary election, it was resolved that Muhammadu Buhari was the best candidate to represent ANPP in the presidential election.
The next time that Rochas Okorocha decided to try for the second time was in 2006 when he declared his intention to contest in the 2007 presidential election. This time, he decided to join the PDP and contest to become the party’s flag bearer for the 2007 presidential election since the ANPP did not give him the party’s ticket the last time out. Unfortunately for Rochas Okorocha, the PDP decided to take President Umaru Musa Yar’adua of blessed memory as the party’s candidate.

During the heated 2015 presidential election, Rochas Okorocha also decided to present himself to the APC as a potential flag bearer for the party. Although Rochas Okorocha had already become a household name in Nigerian politics, he had to contest the party’s primary’s with the likes of Muhammadu Buhari and other top politicians. Again, Rochas Okorocha lost out to President Muhammadu Buhari who went on to win the election.
In 2022, Rochas Okorocha has already declared his intention to contest in the 2023 presidential election under APC, however, he will have to win the party’s primary election before he can become the flag bearer.
