A teenager, David Jonah, was on Wednesday sentenced by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna for stealing a he-goat worth N65,000.

The court found Jonah guilty of two charges—trespass and theft—after he admitted to the crime and pleaded for leniency.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel sentenced Jonah to a fine of N10,000, with a stern warning to desist from criminal activities in the future.

He further advised the teenager to focus on his education or learn a trade, stressing that the court would not show leniency if he reoffended.

The incident was reported to the police by Samson John, the complainant, on November 29.

According to the prosecution, Jonah entered John’s compound while the complainant was away working on his farm and stole the he-goat.

A neighbor caught Jonah as he attempted to leave the compound with the stolen animal.

The offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017, as stated by the prosecution.

The court’s ruling aims to serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar crimes.
