It is no longer news that the Saudi Pro League is embarking on a major recruitment drive, with some high profile transfers like Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marcelo Brozovic and Ruben Neves already completed.

Anfield hero Roberto Firmino has now joined the league of these big-money deals this summer after the 31-year completed his move to Al Ahli following the expiry of his Liverpool contract at the end of last season.

The 31-year-old signs a three-year deal in Saudi Arabia to join former Chelsea goalie Edouard Mendy who arrived Al Ahli earlier in the summer.

The Brazil international spent eight seasons at Liverpool and became an icon at the club, playing 362 games and scoring 111 goals in all competitions.

He was an important part of the team that won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup under Jurgen Klopp, although he dropped down the pecking order towards the end of his time at Anfield.

It has been suggested that Henderson at 33 might be tempted to join his former team-mate Gerrard to pass out the twilight of his career in Saudi.

Though National Daily gathered that Liverpool are yet to receive an official approach from their former captain or Al-Ettifaq for their current captain and are not expecting Henderson to leave this summer.

Al Ettifaq had confirmed Gerrard’s appointment in a post on its official Twitter handle, @Ettifaq_EN.

The post reads: “Where legends are found, We’re thrilled to announce Steven Gerrard is our new head coach.”

The above post may suggest that more legends could still be heading to Saudi.

Henderson has been at Liverpool for 12 years and has been the captain of Jurgen Klopp’s side for the last eight years.
