It appears that Manchester United are finally ready to tackle the challenge with their goalkeeping position after making an improved bid for their main target.

The reports reaching National Daily have suggested that the Red Devils have submitted an improved £39million offer to  sign Inter Milan star Andre Onana.

National Daily understands that the 27-year-old is Erik ten Hag’s first choice to replace David De Gea, who left the club last week following the expiry of his contract.

The Cameroonian is not a stranger to United boss after working with the Dutchman at Ajax and is keen on reuniting with him at Old Trafford.

Inter are open to selling Onana, having landed him on a free transfer just 12 months ago.

United had a £34.4m bid rejected earlier this week but Fabrizio Romano says a follow-up bid has been verbally submitted.

The offer is said to be around £39m, including add-ons.

While this is below Inter’s £44m asking price, the two clubs are nearing a figure that will be accepted.

Onana’s arrival would spell the end of De Gea’s career at Old Trafford, despite the fact the Spaniard had agreed a new deal to stay at the club in May.

However, United retracted their offer and submitted a lower salary to De Gea.

De Gea made costly mistakes against the likes of West Ham, Sevilla and Manchester City last season.

However, he won the Premier League golden glove by keeping 17 clean sheets in 38 matches.
