The United Kingdom (UK)Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Lt.-Gen. Roly Walker, has commended the Nigerian Army for the significant role it is playing in maintaining peace and stability in Africa.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement in Abuja, said Walker gave the commendation when he paid a visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Walker said the Nigerian army has been steadfast in its commitment to peacekeeping efforts across the continent.
He also highlighted its pivotal role in addressing regional security challenges and collaborative efforts to address persistent security concerns.
Walker expressed the commitment of the UK to strengthening its partnership with the Nigerian army and reaffirmed continued support for initiatives aimed at enhancing regional security and stability.

Walker disclosed that he was in Abuja for the upcoming security and defence dialogue between his country and Nigeria.
In his response, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja lauded the harmonious working relationship between the armies of the two nations.
Lagbaja also appreciated the contribution of the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT), which, he said, has been of immense assistance to the Nigerian army in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
The COAS also acknowledged the supporting role of BMATT in the area of capacity development, which significantly upscaled the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and the sub-region.
The COAS pledged that the Nigerian army would entrench its relationship with the UK and expand the frontiers of cooperation to achieve shared security objectives.
