THE Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri has at it’s 133rd meeting held on Wednesday 2nd September 2015 approved the appointments of Professor Abdullahi Haruna Godowoli and Professor Aliyu Shugaba as Deputy-Vice Chancellors Central Administration and Academic Services respectively.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Ag. Registrar of the University Mallam Tijjani Bukar.
According to the Ag. Registrar the appointment is sequel to the recommendations of the Vice-Chancellor and Senate of the University which is in accordance with Section4 (1) – 4 (5) of the University (Miscellaneous Provisions ) Decree No.11 of 1993. The appointment which takes effect from 2nd Sept 2015 is for a period of two years in the first instance and will be eligible for re-appointment for another two years and no more.
The Ag Registrar further pointed out that as Deputy Vice-Chancellors they will among others assist the Vice-Chancellor in the performance of his functions and act if called upon to do so, perform such functions the Vice-Chancellor or Council may from time to time assign them and also retain their Academic appointments with their various departments.
Prof Abdullahi Haruna Godowoli was winner of the Prestigious Overseas Research Student Award of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals of British Universities and Polytechnics for three consecutive years running 1983, 1984 & 1985 while at the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London.
He is widely published in both books n journals at home and abroad and had attended numerous conferences and workshops where he delivered papers.
He is married with children.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Services, Prof Aliyu Shugaba is a fellow of the Institute of Professional Entrepreneur and strategic administrators member institute of chartered chemists of Nigeria member institute of Public Analyst of Nigeria and member Nigeria society for Biochemistry and molecular biology. He has also attended many national and international conferences and workshops and has over twenty research publications to his credit. He is married with children.
