The Women’s Advocacy for Research and Documentation Center (WARD-C) on Wednesday emphasized the importance of social justice, equity, and the inclusion of women in governance during a courtesy visit to Malam Mohammed Idris, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly, representing Tafa Constituency.
Mrs. Hassana Kpetu, Team Lead of WARD-C in Niger, explained that the visit was part of the activities commemorating International Women’s Day.
The visit aimed to highlight the significant achievements of women in various fields.
Kpetu shared that WARD-C’s primary objective is to promote gender equity and create opportunities for women to hold strategic positions in government.
She also introduced Prof. Juliana Dauda, the first female professor of criminology in Niger State, who hails from Tafa Local Government Area (LGA), to the lawmaker.
Kpetu described Dauda as a capable, diligent, and competent individual, well-suited for leadership roles.
In her remarks, Mrs. Hauwa Ijah, the Permanent Secretary for Economic Affairs, praised Dauda’s achievement as a historic milestone for Niger State and urged the legislature to continue supporting women in order to help them reach greater heights.

Prof. Dauda expressed her gratitude to for facilitating her introduction to the legislature, noting that it would aid her efforts in promoting educational development in Tafa.
She also appealed to the legislature to establish a center for training children in information and communication technology (ICT), emphasizing the importance of equipping young people with digital skills for the future.
Responding to the visit, Hon. Idris reaffirmed his commitment to supporting women, stating that they are strong pillars of society capable of overcoming challenges.
He revealed that over 100 children in Tafa LGA had already been trained in digital marketing and pledged to continue such initiatives.
Additionally, WARD-C visited Faruq Isah, the Clerk of the Niger State House of Assembly, to seek his support in the ongoing fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Isah assured WARD-C of his full commitment to supporting efforts aimed at reducing GBV in the state.
