The Human Rights Writers Association, (HURIWA), says the illegal posting of policemen and other security agencies to houses of very important persons is why various criminal groups are now terrorising residents of Abuja.
The group, in a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja, on Sunday, condemned the fact that the FCT Police Command and all other security agencies that ought to concentrate on combating crimes in the nation’s capital are posted to houses of very important persons.
According to the group, this has made crime-fighting a herculean task for the few demotivated operatives.

“We regret the fact that residents of such satellite towns like Kuje, Bwari, Gwagwalada amongst others are daily made to confront the men of the underworld with little or no efforts on the side of the police and other law enforcement agencies within the FCT to effectively introduce measures to combat these crimes.
“We can recall that in early February, the Police in Abuja, confirmed the abduction of John Makama, father of Bwari Area Council Chairman, John Gabaya.
“The perpetrators of this crime are yet to be brought to book ever since the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Bwari Police Station, Biodun Makanjuola, said that the police were still gathering details on what actually happened,” the statement said.
The group further called for a total unbundling of the failed security architecture and the adoption of strategic approaches to crime-fighting just as it suggested the revitalization of the public versus government forum for exchanges of information and ideas on how to secure the Federal Capital Territory.
